Pilates, lots of gain with no pain.
The Pilates method is an exercise program developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the early 20th century to give individuals a way to strengthen the mind/body connection, improve posture and develop a strong and flexible body. The main focus of Pilates is to strengthen the deeper core muscles generally located in the area of the body located below the collarbones and above the hip line. Some benefits of Pilates are increased flexibility, flattening the stomach, slimming the waistline and toning the gluteal muscles.
Why is it important to strengthen your core?
The deeper muscles of the core support the spine. The stronger and more flexible they are the less likely you are to suffer an injury or succumb to chronic back pain. After a back injury it is common for some of these muscle groups to shut down or become dysfunctional. Pilates will help get them working correctly again and make them strong. If you are suffering from back pain due to an acute injury or just chronic pain from years of poor posture Pilates can help you.
What improvements should I expect to see with Pilates training?
Pilates will improve your flexibility, strength, balance, control and muscle tone. Your body awareness will increase, improving your posture and alignment. These changes will not only be noticeable during your workout, but also during your daily activities. In a nutshell, your body will be stronger and have more endurance as you learn to move more efficiently and use the smaller supportive muscles of your core. Pilates will also help you both avoid injury and recover more quickly from injuries that may occur.
