Swedish Massage -
Swedish massage is a gentle massage emphasizing relaxation and circulation. Long relaxing strokes are utilized in a rhythmic manner with the intention of sending fluids towards the heart.
Deep Tissue Massage –
deep tissue massage is a slower and heavier touch focusing on releasing deeper muscle tension and helping to open up the surrounding connective tissue. During massage on more tender areas some breath work can assist in encouraging relaxation. Depth of pressure should always be kept within the client’s comfort levels.
Myofascial Massage –
Myofascial massage is sometimes a deeper technique depending on what structure is being focused on, and generally applied slower than deep tissue work. The emphasis is on the connective tissue of the body and addressing muscles groups that may be stuck in a dysfunctional pattern.
Sports Massage –
Sports massage is a faster paced massage emphasizing circulation and stretching. Range-of-motion techniques are also utilized to help loosen and lengthen muscles that have been working hard during various sports or activities.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage -
Lymphatic Drainage massage is a very light touch focused on moving the lymph fluid of the body to treat edema or lymphedema. Edema is excess fluid in an area, often experienced after injury or surgery, in pregnant women, and as a result of food allergies and many other conditions. I use this technique to treat swelling post surgery or injury and to help with immune function. I am not currently set up to handle lymphedema cases. If you are seeking treatment for lymphedema I would recommend contacting your doctor and asking for a referral to a qualified physical therapist. Prenatal and Postnatal Massage -
Prenatal massage is generally the same pressure as a Swedish massage. It focuses on many of the common areas of discomfort during pregnancy as well as the client’s feedback about how they are feeling from visit to visit to best support both mom and baby. The massage table has a removable section to make room for the mother's belly, allowing the mother to lie on her stomach for back work – which most expectant mothers really enjoy.
Postnatal massage is a deeper touch focused on bringing the mothers pelvis back into the right position so that she can recover her stability and pre-pregnancy posture more quickly. This is accomplished by toning the abdominal muscles and lengthening the lower back.
